Favorite spot on campus

“I think it’s unfair to have me pick one. I really love the TARC, especially the indoor and outdoor track. I love the Student Union365bet体育网址 a lot, too. There’s always at least one friend studying or eating in there.”

after switching his initial majors and minors, suneed ahmed has found a great passion for exercise and sport science through carthage’s small class sizes and attentive professors.

365bet体育网址 “i love the small class sizes,” he says. “getting to know your professors had a really big pull for me.”

An experienced cross country and track runner, Suneed has competed in multiple conferences and meets representing Carthage and spends most of his time in the TARC.

When he’s not on the track, Suneed is involved in business fraternity Pi Sigma Epsilon and social fraternity Tau Sigma Chi. Hoping to utilize his skills in both business and exercise science, he plans to become a collegiate coach.

“Growing up, my parents wanted me to be a doctor or chemist. I didn’t know you could even be a coach if you wanted to!”

Career goal

365bet体育网址 to become a collegiate coach.

Favorite professor

Dr. Aaron Trautwein taught Calculus to me. I was really worried about it because math was not my strong suit, especially calculus. He taught me to not worry about my grade and to just worry about trying to learn the material. As a result, I got a B+!”

Favorite class

“Application Programming of Excel. It was a class I took for J-Term365bet体育网址 and I really enjoyed it. I thought it would be Excel work (like the Excel certification or something like that) but instead, it was computer coding in VBA language. I had the opportunity to create code to make some really cool things on Excel. Some of that I hope to take with me and use later on in my career. I even made a program that could sort athletes by time in their events by pushing a button. It was very cool stuff!”

Toughest class

“my toughest class was probably spanish 3010. we had quizzes every other day worth 100 points and it was usually a hit or miss answering one question. however, it forced me to be really on top of my learning and it greatly improved how i was able to understand and speak spanish. i also saw my vocabulary and grammar in spanish improve as well.”

365bet体育网址 “this summer, the running store i’m working at wants me to help write training, nutrition plans, and run routes over the summer, so i’m really excited for that.”

Opportunities at Carthage

“The application programming of my Excel class was a great experience. I’ve also gotten to join the business fraternity, Pi Sigma Epsilon; been fortunate to run for the cross country and track teams; go All First Team Conference twice in cross country, and get fourth in conference in the 10k race. I also get to do work study with my coach and give tours as a student ambassador, so that will help me greatly in the career path I plan to pursue.”

365bet体育网址 “i’ve actually received a few. i’m not financially well off at home, so i was able to get lots of grant money, scholarships, and fafsa money. it has really helped me attend school and it meant a lot. there was a time i thought i might not be able to afford college, so i’m really grateful i get this opportunity.”

Campus involvement

“I am on the cross country and track and field teams here, and I’ve gotten eighth and ninth in cross country, and fourth in the 10K. I’m also in Pi Sigma Epsilon, the business fraternity, where I’m the vice president of administrations. I basically help make sure we are turning in our forms on time. I’m also joining Tau Sigma Chi365bet体育网址, the social fraternity.”

Favorite moments at Carthage

“racing at the cross country conference my sophomore and junior year, racing the 10k at the meet of champions, and conference my sophomore year are some of the greatest memories i have in my life, let alone at carthage!

“I’ve also had great time with all my friends and teammates in and Student Union365bet体育网址 laughing and having great conversations. Making the Dean’s List my sophomore and junior year (first semester) were also great achievements that I was happy to have accomplished.”

Biggest surprise so far?

“my biggest surprise was switching majors and minors completely. i came in majoring in chemistry and minoring in spanish, and now i’m majoring in exercise and sport science and minoring in business administration — and i still could graduate early!”

What would your 8-year-old self think of you now?

“i think he’d be amazed that you can major in something as fun and fascinating as exercise and sport science, and that it’s realistic to be a collegiate coach. growing up, my parents wanted me to be a doctor or chemist. i didn’t know you could even be a coach if you wanted to!”

Advice for other students considering your major

365bet体育网址 “i suggest you do something you find really fun. i recommend learning about things that you enjoy because going to class and not having fun means you’re most likely not going to enjoy your job. i think life is too short to not enjoy what you’re doing”
