Carthage offers quarantine housing for first-responders and essential workers
like many other colleges and universities across the nation, carthage has offered its unused residential space for first responders and other essential employees while they serve our communities during the pandemic.
carthage is providing two separate isolation areas within one of the oaks residence halls — one floor will be quarantined space for employees who have tested positive for covid-19, and another floor will be quarantined space for those who have been exposed or potentially exposed to the virus.
while in the oaks, residents will be completely quarantined and the city will be responsible for providing all assistance and support for the duration of their stay. during that time, the college will be sanitizing and taking every precaution to protect other individuals on campus.
while there are a handful of students living on campus, they’re being housed in the tower residence hall. no students are in the oaks residential village.
a contract between carthage and the city was approved monday night after a 17-0 vote by the city council. it will take effect may 11 and remain in effect for 10 days after wisconsin’s shelter in place is lifted, or there is a mutual agreement to end the contract. wisconsin’s shelter in place order is set to expire may 26.
“we took great care in crafting the agreement to ensure the safety of all individuals, both during the quarantine period and afterward,” said tina schmitz, vice president for finance and administration and chief financial officer. “we will be taking extra measures to sanitize prior to students’ arrival this fall.”
365bet体育网址 upon the end of the terms of the arrangement, the city will be obligated for all expenses for cleaning and repairs needed for the affected floors in the oaks to be returned for the college’s use in the fall.
365bet体育网址 “we are proud to serve in this way,” said president john swallow.
“we know that students may have concerns about safely moving in for the fall,” he continued. “please know that carthage will take all necessary steps to ensure that our facilities are safe. affected first responders will have departed our facilities well in time for the facilities to be fully cleaned. carthage staff will follow all cdc guidelines, including periods of waiting so that no viruses remain active, to ensure a safe environment for our students.”
